Founder and creative director, Serra Turker, was born and raised in Istanbul. After studying textile design at the renowned art and design institute Rhode Island School of Design in the United States, Turker knew her passion stemmed from her unique connection with the languag of color, texture, and design. Launching Misela was the true evolvement of various aspects of art, design and lifestyle that Turker had ensembled along her journey between Istanbul and New York. For Turker, a handbag is a canvas ready to be transformed into an abstract depiction of a woman’s soul. Misela reflects her way of living, finding the hiddn pleasures and transfor ming them into an object of dsire. Fashion comes and goes, but Misela is a lifestyle, and style never fades.
Tohum Design and Misela Istanbul are both about journeys, each representing the heart and soul of Africa and Turkey. This Summer, the celestial alignment caused them to cross paths in a new destination somewhere in between giving rise to their mystical collaboration called Pera Meets Africa. Misela’s rich pattern history and Tohum’s unique natural representation lead them to curate a cross-cultural dialogue beyond borders and trends. Pera Meets Africa collection consists of three different styles of prints on bags with three distinct styles of Tohum Design knots accompanying them. The patterns are inspired by African textiles of brightly colored batik and geometric tribal prints, and finally consummated by the Turkish art of embroidery.
